  • Brush and vacuum the entire pool once a day.
  • As things progress, you will lose less chlorine each cycle and can add chlorine less frequently. Algae and other organic debris will consume chlorine very rapidly at first. Chlorine additions should be frequent, especially at the beginning. Test and adjust chlorine levels as frequently as practical, but not more than once per hour, and not less than twice a day.
  • Test the FC level and add enough chlorine to bring FC up to shock level (see here for correct shock level).
  • Run the pump 24/7 until you are done SLAMing.
  • The PH test isn’t reliable during SLAMing so make sure to take care of this before you start.
  • Check and adjust the PH to between 7.2 and 7.5.

Make sure your filter is working properly and you understand how to clean it out should it become necessary.

Make sure the pool is free of leaves and other debris (at least as much as possible). It is especially important to avoid using dichlor when SLAMing, as it will raise CYA far too quickly. You will want to have enough on hand to raise the FC level to shock level at least a couple of times. It is best to use bleach or liquid chlorine when SLAMing. You can use the The Chlorine/CYA Chart at Pool School to find the correct FC shock level for your CYA level. You also need to know your current CYA level, and then look up the corresponding FC shock level. You need to have a FAS-DPD chlorine test. What will be doors shape? more angles, straight lines-more dings. We had also custom shelving made at some point.everything's good. If you go for stain.for sure check local cabinetmakers. We went with the simplest susans for corner cabinets.just one glass cabinet.too few uppers, too many loved ones who can't put things back exactly how they were. Just cabinetry.how many lowers, uppers, drawers etc you have planned? no island, right? When you talking about quotes, Are you talking cabinets only? or whole kitchen? Same exact everything specified.īut our GC wanted to work with the guy he knew for years. I must add that another cabinetmaker that we knew and liked, gave us much lower estimate. Maybe I'm also unprepared for these imperfections as I've never had painted cabinets before in my life. The thing is-it's not only me in that kitchen. I don't have any issues, I love our cabinets.except for that fragile finish. Everything was top-notch-communication, execution, everything on time (meaning-long before everything else was ready.lol). I think during all our huge remodel he was the only guy who never made a mistake. His regular price would be around 23-25K for kitchen our size?(I think similar size to yours, a bit smaller. We have a small kitchen too, and had a high end local cabinetmaker(we did have a special price that made it affordable for us) make it.the guy is a wizard, he made our master bath vanity too. No ding came from me)) or so I think at least If one's light on things he'll be fine I believe but I do believe-from reading here- that paints, varnishes, etc here lack certain binding agents.not that I know what these are.but being gluten free myself, I kinda compare it, in my mind, to not having gluten.for paint)) I do believe that painted finish in CA might be om reading this very forum, and from my own experience-we have amazing cabinets.of course they're abused my poor dears(lol).

But, wow, what a difference between the costs I see quoted for other parts of the country. We have one more quote to receive, and we'll choose between it and the ones that came in at $35,000 and $39,000.

Our house was built in the early 1980's, so most of the other code requirements are met. We don't have formal quotes yet to see exactly how much those costs are, but I estimate it's at least $2,000. The electrical must be upgraded in the kitchen for the number of outlets per counter. Part of the cost for the contractors is that my community requires changes due to code requirements in the kitchen and elsewhere, including installation of smoke detectors and CO detectors (we would have to add one smoke detector and two CO detectors to our established collection). The Barker cabinets would be finished, and the Scheer's would not, which is a problem in California (none of the finishes sold here hold up well). Scheer's is about $12,000 delivered (using furniture board it would be about $9,000). Pricing out Barker Cabinets I find they would cost about $10,000 delivered.

In between those two extremes we have one quote for $35,000 (US made Belmont frameless cabinets with upgrade to plywood from furniture board) and one for $39,000 (US made Brookhaven frameless cabinets). Our 9'3" x 11' kitchen will cost from $28,500 (imported non-custom cabinets) to $73,000 (Wood-Mode cabinets). Getting estimates from several contractors here in our community has created quite a bit of sticker shock.
